Dooga Day, McKay Drilling’s official remembrance day for mental health awareness and suicide prevention, remembering our loved ones gone too soon. Sadly, this day began after our mate Joshua ‘Dooga’ Jones took his own life and his absence is still felt greatly throughout the company.
This year we held workshops across our field sites and in the Newman and Wangara Workshops. We would like to thank all that attended and everyone that showed their support.
Wangara Workshop held a Brekky BBQ and invited Storn Pettersen from Bindoon Mobile Recovery Campaign Inc. to share his experience with suicide and spread the word to look after eachother. It was a really informative morning, creating a lot of discussion which is absolutely key to improve the mental health space and to help prevent suicide.

Thank you to our Boilermakers who created ‘The Dooga Tree’ from offcuts, everyone participated in painting it blue. Blue is well known as the colour that represents mental health awareness and it will feature out the front of our McKay Drilling office to continue to catch the eye of passer-by’s to be a reminder they are not alone and hopefully continue to create discussion.
Across the field, we thank all our clients who supported our crews gathering to talk about the significance of Dooga Day and what they can all do to support one another in the isolating world of FIFO. We are so proud of our crews, supporting mateship and embracing sharing their thoughts with one another.

On Dooga Day, every hazard identified and meters drilled equates to a donation. We are proud of our employees who identified 119 hazards, 2238 RC meters and 116 DD meters. They were all safe meters drilled with no incidents reported. McKay Drilling has donated $4603 to the Dooga Day GoFundMe page as a result of this awesome effort.
