Steve Cock, an Automotive Technician in our Wangara Workshop is celebrating 10 years with McKay Drilling. Steve started with McKay Drilling, a young boilermaker with previous experience in the Mining Industry. He is known as a hard worker amongst his peers who is always willing to put in the extra effort to get a job done well.
Steve is not short on humor and a man of few words but an all round top bloke. Congratulations Steve on your 10 year milestone and we look forward to working with you till your sporting a grey beard.
To commemorate his 10 Year Anniversary here at McKay’s we asked Steve the following questions;
Tell us about yourself, where were you born and grew up?
I’m from Tassie originally and spent most of my life there.
What were you doing before working in drilling maintenance?
I was working in Mining maintenance mills and underground.
When did you start with McKay’s and how did you get the job?
2011, I just applied for a job online. Marcus Best interviewed me and I’m still putting up with him 10 years on 🙂
What was it like working for McKay’s back when you started? Who did you learn from and what valuable lessons did you learn in the early days?
Yeah there were a few more pranks back in the day and things were a bit looser that’s for sure.
Ricky Colvin and myself were the only boily’s for a long time. Ricky taught me to keep my clothes on! (In reference to RnR outing days when Ricky would be a flouting exhibitionist with minimal encouragement)
What’s kept you around for so long?
It’s been a great place to work over the years, the people are what have made it so good.
What changes have you seen in the company and industry over your 10 year career in drilling maintenance?
McKay Drilling has changed and evolved a lot with only 10 rigs, doing mainly bush jobs when I first started to where we are today!
What advice would you like to pass on to people starting a career in drilling maintenance?
It definitely comes with its challenges! But it can be very rewarding.
